Interactive Session "PCOD & PCOS in Adolescent Girls: Causes and Cure" on 10.07.2021

UGC Centre for Women’s Studies & The Office of Chief Warden, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur organised an interactive session on ‘PCOD & PCOS in Adolescent Girls: Causes and Cure’ on 10th July, 2021. Resource Person of this session, Dr. Aishwarya Parthasarathy M.D. (OG) AIIMS, New Delhi, DNB (OG), FNB (Reproductive Medicine) started her presentation by quoting the example of Harnaam Kaur, a model, and activist who has a full beard as a result of PCOS. Major highlights: She discussed what is PCOS, what happens in it, differences between PCOD & PCOS, its symptoms, causes, types, PCOS & its relationship with insulin, health risks, treatment, natural remedies, diet plans, exercise, intermittent fasting, its types and discuss the remedies of the various symptoms of PCOS Dr. Aishwarya emphasized ‘Diet & Lifestyle modification’ & quotes that it's the first-line treatment for any age. Follow any diet practice which has fewer carbohydrates & fats, less caffeine, more whole grains, vegetables, fruits. She recommended 3 meals and 3 snacks rule. She advised any form of physical exercise regularly, it can be 30 min cardio, yoga, swimming, or simply 10,000 steps of walking. Losing weight may also increase the effectiveness of medications and other benefits are on the way. More than 60 participants benefited from this program. Participants asked queries related to hormonal pills, remedies for PCOS symptoms, comorbidities with PCOS, and things like that.
